The name “Touareg” springs from a French name for a wandering tribe. As you might have guessed, this car is marketed especially to people who like to roam by car. It is an SUV with a good dose of luxury thrown in, just as you would expect from Volkswagen. The Touareg is currently produced in Slovakia and in the past could have run you almost 31,000 pounds.
Your engine choices are widely varied when you consider the Touareg. From a 3.2L petrol engine with 237 h.p. to a 6.0 petrol with 444 h.p., there is something for every taste in driving. Diesel engines are also available, and are generally more powerful than their petrol counterparts.
The Touareg was updated in 2006 and received a shield grille as well as over 2,300 newly designed components. The amount of technology a Touareg offers has also risen and includes a cruise control system that can make the car either slow or stop by scanning the traffic situation. There is also a very handy gadget called the Side Scan. This innovative tool watched in the blind spot where you cannot usually see and alerts you to the presence of a car via LED lights within the side mirrors.
A Touareg will come with four-wheel drive rather than the front-wheel drive common in compact models. If you are the type that likes to drive off-road for some adventure behind the wheel, the Touareg provides an exciting option: from inside the car, you can direct the car to increase its ride height. This is possible through an air suspension design. The Touareg can get up to 10.7 inches of space between it and the ground.
You can feel secure even when driving on a surface that doesn’t provide much traction, because the Touareg offers ABS Plus. This system works with the traction control capability and can help your braking distance become as much as 25% shorter.
The back seats cannot be removed or slid out of place, but there are still 555 litres of boot space up to window-level. If you fold the rear seats, you can get up to 1570 litres of space for stowing all your luggage or camping equipment. If you have to have your cubbyholes, there are plenty of them in the Volkswagen Touareg, from cupholders and storage areas to air-conditioned glove boxes.
Best of all, you will definitely feel removed from the noise and atmosphere of the road. This is due to the fact that a Touareg has been designed to fully insulate the driver and passengers for a comfy driving experience. If a model was made in 2007 or later, it will feature a side mirror that has a better aerodynamic design and will lower the amount of wind noise you can expect.
Additional options that you can request include a sensor in case of rollover and more comfortable seats. You can even get a great sound system: the 620 watt Dynaudio. With so many options, the Touareg is destined to be a popular Volkswagen choice.
